DRY LIPS: If the corners of your mouth are stretched they may dry out and crack. After the first 24 hours, resume brushing your teeth, being particularly gentle near the surgical wound to avoid disrupting any stitches. Exercise may weaken you. If numbness of the lip, chin, or tongue occurs there is no cause for alarm. Your doctor will tell you about that though, I guess. Use a warm salt-water rinse (1/2 teaspoon salt per 8 oz) to clean the surgical area. An ice pack or an unopened bag of frozen peas or corn applied to the area will keep swelling to a minimum.

Do not refill your prescription unless directed to do so by Dr. Avoid hot liquids or food while you are numb so you don’t burn yourself. Discontinue antibiotic use in the event of a rash or other unfavorable reaction. Avoid extremely hot foods. In addition, your dentist may recommend you take an OTC pain reliever such as ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) for several days. Do not exceed 3 grams per day of Acetaminophen/Tylenol.
